After Anyone Can Whistle, Arthur Laurents and Stephen Sondheim did not work together again until 1973, when Sondheim wrote incidental music for Laurents' play The Enclave. Sondheim wrote six or seven sections of music for piano and percussion, and it was prerecorded for performances.

Assassins is about how society interprets the American Dream, marginalizes outsiders and rewrites and sanitizes its collective history. "Something Just Broke" is a major distraction and plays like an afterthought, shoe horned simply to appease.
