The Last Resorts was an unproduced musical based on a title by Cleveland Amory. The story was about an author who goes to Florida to write an article about the Duke and Duchess of Windsor. Harold Prince had bought the rights because he was interested in adapting it for a musical, Jean Kerr was writing the book. The project, however, was never produced, because Sondheim's music didn't fit well with Kerr's book, and because Prince didn't like the book very much anyway. One song, "Pour le Sport," survives.

Assassins is about how society interprets the American Dream, marginalizes outsiders and rewrites and sanitizes its collective history. "Something Just Broke" is a major distraction and plays like an afterthought, shoe horned simply to appease. The song breaks the dramatic fluidity and obstructs the overall pacing and climactic arc which derails the very intent and momentum that makes this work so compelling... - Mark Bakalor
